Our home environment serves as the first learning environment for our children. And considering it’s the place they spend the second most time in their lives in, it should be set up in a way that would facilitate their learning whenever they’re not in school. To create an effective studying environment, there are several things that should be kept in mind which we’ll elaborate further in this article.

Creating a dedicated space
The most common challenge for studying at home are the distractions. Whether that’s the television, the noise level, people at home, or just the fact that you know you can lay down on the bed anytime you want.
The best way to mitigate distractions is to create a space without one. Designate a room or space that will facilitate your productivity. Ideally, this space should be void of distractions, no trivial things that would catch your attention, and have ample lighting.
Positive reinforcement
Positive action should be reinforced with positive reinforcement. In this case, your children's time being productive studying should be reinforced by a reward system that’s designed to keep them motivated. For example, set a condition for your kids for when they complete a two-hour studying session they can grab a snack or call a friend as a reward for themselves. You can even establish this reinforcement with someone else, that way your kids won’t be able to cheat to obtain the reward unless they actually complete the task you mentioned to them.
Establish accountability
When we tell others what we want to do, it gives a sense of accountability and also a mental obligation to complete the task. In this case, you want to establish accountability in your kids by asking them to share with others what their plan is for the studying session. This can be the people at home, their classmates, or anyone you can think of that can help them to feel accountable for their studying session.

On a closing note, studying at home can be challenging with all the distractions. When we are constantly distracted, it takes more energy to focus resulting in less efficient studying sessions. We hope the tips we’ve shared in this article has proven insightful for your kids effective studying at home.
