In collaboration with the Leimena Institute, IPEKA held the First Class of Christian Teacher’s LKLB

Institut Leimena, in collaboration with IPEKA Christian School, Gloria Christian School, and Tritunggal Christian School, held an international training on Cross-Cultural Religious Literacy (LKLB) for 170 teachers from the three schools. The online training was held from February 27 to March 3, 2023, with the aim of building understanding and attitudes for relating in the midst of a multi-religious community and encouraging collaboration for the common good.

Matius Ho, the Executive Director of the Leimena Institute, explained that this LKLB training is the 27th class and the first class for Christian religious teachers since the LKLB program was launched in October 2021. So far, the number of LKLB training alumni has reached at least 3,300 religious teachers/facilitators from 34 provinces in Indonesia.

Rev. Handojo, the Managing Director of IPEKA Christian School, hopes that the LKLB introduction training can facilitate Christian teachers to get to know various religions so that they can develop and teach the right tolerance attitudes to students. Handojo said that all religions have people who have tolerant and extremist attitudes, so LKLB is needed to maintain the unity of Indonesia.

According to Rev. Handojo, a tolerant attitude does not mean compromising faith. On the other hand, the Great Commandment as a mandate for discipleship goes hand in hand with tolerance because it is not done by coercion but by awareness of God's love and goodness.

"This is the basis when we live with others. Whatever the religion and background of a person, we must respect them," said Rev. Handojo.
